If your son or daughter is absent due to illness or appointment please telephone 01773 602106, select Option 1 and then follow the message instructions when prompted, which will transfer you to the “absence line”. For reasons of child safety, we would ask that you telephone the school before 9.00am to report any absence from school. Please note that if your child is absent due to illness, you MUST ring daily to ensure that our records are accurate.
Any student arriving late must come into school from the top gate on Derby Road, pressing the buzzer to be allowed in, and then sign in before going to lessons, giving the time of arrival and the reason for their absence. Any medical appointments should be backed up with a letter if possible.
If your child has a medical appointment which means that they have to leave school during the school day, please send your child with a note to show his or her class teacher. The teacher will send your child to Reception to wait for you to collect them. You, or an appointed person over the age of 18, must collect your child in person. This is also the case if we need to send your child home because he or she becomes ill. Your child’s safety is an absolute priority for us and for that reason we will not allow students to wait to be picked up outside the school gate. In either case, you must inform main reception at the electronic gates and make your way to main reception where you can sign out your child.
It is also a requirement that evidence is produced for medical appointments/sporting activities/college interviews etc to enable us to authorise and code absences correctly. This can be in the form of an appointment card/letter/email. Please bring this with you when you collect your child from school or send it with your child if they come into school after the appointment. Any absences should still be reported in advance by telephone to the Attendance Officer on 01773 602106 ext 1051. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Parkin on email@example.com.
In line with the new government legislation, which came into force 1st September 2013, leave of absence in term time will not be granted unless there are exceptional circumstances. Any parent/carers wishing to apply for leave of absence for their child needs to complete a Leave of Absence Form which can be collected from your child’s Year Group Hub or downloaded by clicking here .
