Uniform and Equipment

Swanwick Hall School is part of the Two Counties Multi-Academy Trust and provides excellent education and learning opportunities for secondary and sixth-form students aged 11-18 in and around the Alfreton area of Derbyshire.

Uniform Amendment

In terms of uniform, we are going to make some simple changes to ensure that students can stay warm as we move into winter.

Our existing uniform policy allows for students to react to changeable weather through the provision of a polo top, a school sweatshirt or cardigan and an outdoor coat.  However, now we are faced with a winter with open windows/doors to create ventilation, we need to temporarily review our policy.

Students are encouraged to layer, with a base layer of clothing in our school colours, the polo top, the school sweatshirt and, if they so choose, we will allow a plain dark coloured (grey, blue, black) fleece to ensure that they can remain warm in the winter months.  Students will not be permitted to wear their outdoor coat indoors.  That fleece may have a simple small logo but must be plain otherwise.  It must also not have a hood.  Here is an example for parents/students to reference;

The remaining uniform will remain the same, but we must re-emphasise some things that are not permitted;

  • No hoodies at all – a normal, waterproof coat is most suitable for our site
  • All shoes must be polishable – no trainers etc.
  • No skin tight trousers
  • Earrings must be studs only

We will be continuing to complete weekly uniform checks to ensure that our students are proudly wearing the uniform that they agreed to when they chose Swanwick Hall School.

School Uniform Requirements

It is a condition of attending the school that students conform to the school dress requirements. Students who attend school incorrectly will not be allowed to attend lessons unless they arrange to have the correct uniform brought from home or agree to wear uniform provided by the school.

  • Swanwick Hall School sweatshirt or Swanwick Hall School cardigan
  • Plain Black traditional formal school type trousers or skirt of a suitable length for school (from knee to mid-calf length). Trousers must be loose fitting and must not be chinos, jeans; leggings; no fashion zips, buckles or studs
  • Alternatively, students are permitted to wear black culottes or black school shorts. Shorts should be tailored (not P.E or cargo-style shorts) and knee-length. Formal shorts usually have two front pockets and loop holes for a belt.
  • A plain black belt if required. Wide ‘fashion belts’ and belts with studs are not allowed.
  • Swanwick Hall School polo shirt or any plain white school type shirt with a collar. PE polo shirts should only be worn for PE lessons.
  • Plain black school type polishable shoes or plain black polishable ankle boots which must be worn to and from school as well as in school. Trousers are not to be tucked into ankle boots.
  • For safety and security reasons no jewellery (including rings, wrist and neck bands etc.) is allowed other than one watch (not Smart watch), one small stud per ear and a small nose stud.
  • Caps, hats and any other type of head covering should only be worn in either cold or sunny weather for relevant protection, not as fashion items and never inside any buildings

  • Non uniform items, including jewellery, will be confiscated and parents will be required to collect them from Student Services.
  • Non-uniform items are not to be worn under sweatshirts even if they are not visible since when students get hot they tend to remove their sweatshirts.
  • Please insist on ‘sensible’ shoes as many ‘fashion’ shoes are uncomfortable when worn for long periods and are liable to damage young feet and ankles.
  • Non uniform tops covering the school uniform are not allowed . Hoodies, sweat tops and jumpers are not classed as coats in our school policy. Coats should be waterproof.
  • Any makeup must be discreet.

If parents/carers about the school uniform requirements they should contact their child’s Progress & Achievement Manager in the first instance.

I would like to thank all TTCT staff for their hard work this term, thank our wonderful students for their positivity and families for their support. We are one team The Two Counties team. #ambition #teamwork #honesty.
